This Cookie Policy explains how The Doves Nest uses cookies and similar technologies on our website, what they do and how you can control them. It should be read together with our Privacy Policy.
1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help the website work, remember your preferences and, in some cases, allow third-party services to function. We also use browser storage (such as localStorage) for simple preferences.
2. Your consent
When you first visit the site, a cookie banner lets you accept or reject non-essential cookies and explains what is used. Strictly necessary cookies are set without consent because the site cannot work without them. You can change your choice at any time using the Cookie settings link in the footer. Rejecting non-essential cookies does not prevent you from using the site.
3. Cookies and storage we use
Strictly necessary
- PHPSESSID — session — our server. Keeps your session and forms working. Deleted when you close your browser.
- wordpress_test_cookie — session — WordPress. Checks that your browser accepts cookies (used for login).
- wordpress_logged_in_… and wordpress_sec_… — up to 14 days / 2 days — WordPress. Only set if you sign in to the administration area (staff).
Functional
- pll_language — 1 year — Polylang / our site. Remembers whether you chose English or French.
- dn-currency — browser localStorage (not a cookie) — our site. Remembers whether you prefer prices in USD or EUR.
- Cookie consent record — up to 12 months — our cookie banner. Remembers your cookie choices so we do not ask on every visit.
Third-party content and payments
- Google Maps — our embedded maps are blocked until you choose to load them. When a map is loaded, Google may set cookies (for example NID and CONSENT) and receives your IP address. These cookies are controlled by Google; see Google's privacy policy and cookie information.
- Stripe — when you reach the payment step of a booking, Stripe may set cookies (for example __stripe_mid, __stripe_sid and m) to process the payment securely and prevent fraud. These cookies are controlled by Stripe; see Stripe's privacy policy.
We do not currently use advertising or analytics cookies (such as Google Analytics or a Meta Pixel). If we introduce them, we will update this policy and request consent where required.
4. Managing cookies
You can change or withdraw your consent at any time using the Cookie settings link in the footer of every page. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings — see your browser's help pages (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge). Blocking all cookies may affect parts of the site, for example forms or language selection. To remove Google Maps cookies specifically, clear cookies for google.com in your browser.
5. Changes
We may update this Cookie Policy when the cookies we use change. The current version is always on this page with the “last updated” date above.
